Como, Lombardy is the Italian city of 84,555 , capital of the province.
Its inhabitants are called Comaschi.
The city is situated on the lakefront a few steps from Piazza del Duomo, one of the largest cathedrals in Lombardy. The old town still has the look of the original Roman fort, with well-preserved medieval walls and large watchtowers (Gate Tower, Tower Gattoni, S. Vitale). Remarkable are the churches of S. Abbondio and S. Fedele, the heart of the walled city, while the buildings are masterpieces erected by rationalists Como Giuseppe Terragni: the ex-House of the fascia, the War Memorial and Novocomum. Nearby, the Volta Temple houses some relics of the scientist Alessandro Volta, Como another famous inventor of the electric battery.
